Cisco Systems, a technology powerhouse, and LAN pioneer has established net-zero emission objectives for 2040 as part of its bold and successful ESG efforts, Sustainability Mag reports.
Cisco Systems, Inc., a San Jose-based international technological corporation, was an originator of the idea of local area networks, which connect computers via a multiprotocol router system. Cisco Systems, Inc. is also noted for its energy-efficient supply chain.
Cisco has established long-term objectives to reduce the impact of its goods and activities on the environment. Over 440 energy efficiency projects have been executed in the previous five years, reducing costs and emissions, and the firm is actively creating more efficient thermal systems. These new methods are intended to cut down on power loss while increasing efficiency. The purpose report for 2021 lays out a lot of this.
“Twenty years ago, Cisco signed the UN Global Compact, which encouraged businesses to focus on sustainability and social responsibility while reporting on their progress. In doing so, we aligned our operations and strategies to the UN’s Ten Principles on human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, and began taking strategic actions to advance societal goals,” said Chuck Robbins, Cisco Chair and CEO.
“Most recently, we’ve been especially focused on environmental sustainability, which is reflected in our recent commitment to reach net-zero for all scopes of greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.”
Cisco uses renewable energy to generate up to 85% of its electricity. It has also cut 60% of its Scope 1 and 2 direct and indirect emissions, such as business cars and air conditioning systems, to zero emissions, with Scope 3 emissions still to come.
The company is focused on developing devices that are more ecologically friendly, such as the Cisco 8201, a 1RU fixed system based on a single Cisco Silicon One Q100 device.
In 2021, SG Analytics, a renowned ESG research, and analytics firm evaluated the corporation as the tenth most sustainable.
Cisco workers are motivated to participate in ESG goals through programs such as the Earth Aware campaign, the SustainX internal thought leadership forum, the Cisco Green Team sustainability project hub, and the interactive sustainability platform Cisco GreenHouse.
Cisco also recently made an announcement saying that its fifth annual Cisco Global Problem Solver Challenge will kick-off. The CGPS Challenge is a contest that grants cash awards to early-stage tech startup companies that provide the most comprehensive solution to the world’s most pressing social and environmental problems, with a grand prize of $1 million. Cisco’s CSR branch, The Cisco Foundation, has also pledged US$100 million over ten years to finance charity grants and impact investment in climate solutions.
