During the first two months of this year, China has seen a significant increase in the installed capacity of wind and solar energy power plants, Xinhua news agency reported, citing data from the State Energy Administration of the People’s Republic of China.
The department said that the installed capacity of wind farms increased by 17.5 percent year on year between January and February and amounted to 330 million kilowatts. And the installed capacity of solar power plants has reached 320 million kW – 22.7% more than a year earlier.
China’s total installed electricity generation capacity was 2.39 billion kilowatts by the end of February. During the year, this figure increased by 7.8%.
China has announced that it will aim to achieve peak carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. To this end, the country’s leadership will gradually increase the share of non-fossil energy sources in total energy consumption to approximately 20 percent by 2025, to 25 percent by 2030, and more than 80 percent by 2060.
